About Cádiz

Occupying a tiny peninsula on the south coast of Spain, Cádiz is a beautiful old city, which is well worth a visit. The old town is on the tip of the peninsula and is buzzing with beautiful plazas that are constantly full of life, narrow streets and small shops. To get here, you must pass through the new town, an elegant metropolis with excellent, white sandy beaches.

Stay at Parador De Cádiz (Hotel Atlantico)

We visited Cádiz in August this year and stayed at Parador De Cadiz – Hotel Atlantico. The hotel is situated near the beach in the heart of Cádiz, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, beaches, etc. The hotel features a full-service spa, a sauna and an amazing seasonal outdoor pool with panoramic ocean view. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in Europe! It’s a modern hotel, so if you prefer a more authentic Spanish experience, I wouldn’t recommend you to stay here.

Our room had a large balcony with ocean view and view of the pool area. See the pictures below.

What to do and where to eat
  • Have dinner at one of the small sidewalk restaurants at Plaza de las Flores or Plaza de Candelaria.
  • For fine dining, visit Restaurante El Faro de Cádiz. The restaurant’s tapas bar is very popular as well (and more casual) – it was packed, when we visited.  San Félix 15, Cádiz
  • For more restaurants, chek ViaMichelin‘s restaurant guide here!
  • Visit the market, Mercado Central next to Plaza de las Flores.
  • Go to the beach! Stick around until sunset and blend in with the locals…
  • Cadiz Cathedral - a beautiful building from 1838, which took 116 years to complete.
  • Shopping is quite good in Cádiz. Lots of local shops, but the larger Spanish brands like ZARA and Mango, are represented as well.
When to go?

The peninsular setting of Cadiz and the Atlantic winds can make Cádiz cooler than other parts of Spain. Perfect during the hot summer! The Cadiz Carnival in February is one of the largest in mainland Spain, and is supposed to be a great mixture of Andalucian flamenco, African and Latin American rhythms.
